Dimensions Brochure

Dimensions comprises a number of tools that allow users to quickly generate dimension lines from Surpac graphical data. Dimension lines are used extensively to graphically illustrate lenghts and sizes. They're essential on engineering drawings and compliment any presentation graphic by giving it a sense of scale.

The examples below shows several dimension lines aligned between points. The dimension lines are added simply by selecting the points that you wish to report the length of with the mouse.

Currently, three types of dimension lines can be created:

  • Aligned between two points
  • Between two points along the X axis
  • Between two points along the Y axis
Both 2D and 3D lengths can be reported. Dimension offsets can be specified for each type of dimension line as can arrow size and angle, the precision reported, units used (metric or imperial), and many styles can be choosen. The diagrams below show the main Dimensions menu and control bar.

The Dimensions package also includes a number of plot entities to assist in creating quality output. Text can be plotted in a number of ways in relation to the dimension line. The example below shows a plot produced using the Surpac Vision plotting module with the assistence of the Dimensions quick plot module.

The Dimensions package also allows great flexibilty when defining the actual dimension lines. A preference editor is avaiable so a number of options can be adjusted to suit your particular needs.
